NYTimes wrote up this show beforehand. Weird crowd. A barricade. But they played Tarot, so I think everyone was okay with it. -D¢
When I first heard the drums for Tarot, I didn't recognize it right away and thought it was a new song. Then realized it was an olllld song, and thought it might be “Incendiarism,” but when I realized it was “Tarot” I absolutely lost my shit. I grabbed the girl next to me, whom I didn't know, by the shoulders and just shook her excitedly, because I couldn't find the right words to express myself. Finally I figured out what to say and screamed in her face “they're playing TAROT!” It was a really weird crowd, when I let go of the girl she just turned and ran away instead of dancing or anything. - N.N.
I usually make an effort to sing along to every song the best I can, but when Tarot started up I just thrashed. Floating somewhere among the interwebs is a video from the balcony that picked up these little tidbits of lines from the song that Jack wasn't singing — “The prince of coins! COINS!” — that made me smile. It was very strange to see Times readers wandering amongst sweaty punks, but I guess that's cool. — Margot
Was this the show where they played the JTBP song cycle as an encore? If its the show im thinking of, Matt Landis and I brought a giant bag of confetti and threw it at the people standing outside the venue after the show. -Erixa
No, That was 2.1.2008 at Bowery Ballroom. - Scott MS
When they played Tarot, I freaked, but, despite my excitement, I was still critical that Jack didn't say DIE MOTHERFUCKER, etc until the next time they would play Tarot, which would be whatever tour came after this. Also, I met Jen akuoni before/at this show, which gave me the internet burden of explaining how she did in fact exist, despite her many spelling errors. - [Leeah Swift]
